The earliest evidence of urbanization in ancient Bengal can be found here. Several researchers worked in the ruins or released them in the first place, but it was a British Indologist – Sir Alexander Cunningham – who made the most important discovery in the then dense jungle in 1879: Mahasthangarh is Pundranagar (the city of the Pundra).
